This weekend I was talking with my friend Josephine and she was asking about fashion icons. I had never really thought about who my fashion icons are. Have you? I spent some time thinking about it, and though there are some celebrities out there with great taste, I prefer to live in the blogger world. I thought I would share with you three of my favorite fashion bloggers and my current fashion icons!

Gabi of Gabifresh

I have been obsessed with Gabifresh for years now…OBSESSED! I just love her so much. She is adorable, has amazing style and her confidence is so refreshing! There is NOTHING more beautiful then a poised confident woman. I would have to say that she is my absolute favorite.  She is such an inspiration for women of all shapes and sizes. Get it Gabi!

Wendy of Wendy’s Lookbook

Wendy is another blogger who I have been stalking for years. I first found Wendy when I saw her youtube video called 25 Ways to Wear a Scarf. It’s AMAZING! She is so stylish. I mean I can’t afford most of the things she wears, but I just love her.

 Blake of Blake Von D

I just recently stumbled upon Blake’s fashion blog, but I think she’s awesome. When I look at her I am reminded of how fearless I used to be when it comes to fashion. In my old age I feel like I’ve gotten more reserved, but lately Blake has been reminding me to take more fashion risks.

The dream team is back together to share a couple spring makeup trends to keep an eye out for! I of course, know nothing about makeup, so the lovely Sara of Makeup by Sara Eleen has come to the rescue for a consult!

1.  The Spring of Dewy Skin

I’m in luck this season because dewy skin is all I do in life (mostly because I’m lazy)! “What is dewy skin exactly?” you ask? Well the dewy look is a pretty light to medium coverage that gives that light-reflecting look. Honestly lately I have been getting so many compliments on my skin and believe me, it’s not because my skin is amazing at all.  I think it’s because I trick people with this dewy look. Less coverage and a good moisturizer can go a long way to give your skin that healthy radiant look.Love-Cheria-Christina-Chico-photography-Sara-Eleen-Mua-Spring-makeup

2. The Spring of BOLD Eyes

This spring, bold colors are all the rage, particularly emerald green, cobalt blue, and gold, as seen a couple of weeks ago on my day to night post. When Sara first told me about this emerald green craze neither one of us was sure how we felt about it, but after we saw Christina’s photos we became believers. Now I can’t say that I would wear this look daily, but I gotta say, it’s pretty fun.Love-Cheria-Christina-Chico-photography-Sara-Eleen-Mua-Spring-makeup

3. The Spring of Orange Lipstick

I am wearing more of a coral here with a hint of orange (she used an orange lip liner) but as far as the trend goes we are talkin’ punch you in the face orange (not sure what that means but I’m rollin’ with it).Love-Cheria-Christina-Chico-photography-Sara-Eleen-Mua-Spring-makeup

To get this exact look, here is what Sara used! Foundation: MAC Hyper Real Foundation (discontinued)  Contour: Glo Mineral’s Glo Pressed Base, Highlight: Sonia Kashuk’s Liquid Bronze Highlight, Eyeshadow Base: MAC Paint Pot (Painterly),  Inner Corner: NYX Ultra Pearl Loose Pigment (Lime),  Inner Lid: MAC pigment (Golders Green – discontinued), Outer Lid: MAC Eyeshadow (Parfait Amour), Outer Corner and Under Eye: MAC Beauty Marked, Blush: MAC Mineralize Skinfinish (Stereo Rose), Eyebrows: Sebastian Trucco (Brown), Lips: NYX Lip Liner (Orange), NYX Lipstick (Femme & Indian Pink), Lashes: Ardel’s Natural Lashes.Love-Cheria-Christina-Chico-photography-Sara-Eleen-Mua-Spring-makeup

Also, not that anyone cares what I’m wearing here, but I love these black satin wide-legged pants from Forever 21 with my all time favorite 1983 Michael Jackson t-shirt that I found in a thrift store in Germany with my friend Margeaux (who just got engaged this weekend! YAYAYA!). It was a little kid’s pajama set and it came with shorts that had the exact image on each leg. I mean come on what more can you ask for? One pajama set, three identical pictures of Michael, priceless!

Again, special thanks to Christina for capturing Sara’s amazing work!  Be sure to check out both of her websites and Sweet Kisses Boudoir and give her a shout for any photography needs! And thank you to Sara for keeping me in the know on what’s happening this spring! As always, if you’re looking to get your makeup done for any type of event, Sara is your girl. Like Makeup By Sara Eleen on Facebook! If you’d like an in-person tutorial and want to try out some cool new products, Sara will be in Pasadena this week hosting a super cool event for Motives Cosmetics so message her on Facebook!

Love you all! Thanks so much for reading!!! XOXOXOX!

I have been doing this weekday vegetarian thing for about 2 months now and I have to say it is going swimmingly. David has kind of abandoned the cause but it isn’t like he’s’ bringing steaks home everyday or anything; he just eats more fish really.  As for me, while I am loving my new way of life, I have to say I’m really glad I didn’t give up meat entirely. Though I have a new found love for veggie burgers (I love trying different ones, right now my favorite is at Hook Burger in Pasadena) on the weekends a big juicy burger is all I want. As far as eating more veggies goes, I can say I have definitely increased my veggie intake but not quite to the level I was looking for. I have slipped into the world of meat substitutes just a little bit more then I would like. For example I love Soy-Rizzo, I use it for chili, eggs, potatoes…yumm!  The only other meat substitutey thing I eat are these delicious edamame nuggets from Trader Joe’s that my friend Brittany told me about like two years ago. I’m kinda ashamed that I eat them, but they are super easy when I need to eat something that requires no thought.

This week I made probably my favorite veggie meal yet and I just have to share it with you! I found this recipe for smokey sweet potato tacos on a blog called A Side of Sweet, and when I saw it I grabbed my purse and immediately went to the grocery store to get the ingredients.  I tweaked it just a little bit (mostly because I don’t follow instructions very well) and honestly it was one of the best things I’ve ever made!

For all of you who are saying, “I just can’t get into sweet potatoes” I promise you, this is a sweat potato like you’ve never tasted it before! It isn’t overwhelming at all. Check out my slightly revised recipe below but also show some love to Kelly of A Side of Sweet who came up with this genius recipe!

The Recipe

Add 1 tablespoon of Rice bran oil (or any high heat tolerant oil) to skillet

Add garlic salt, paprika, and a little bit of salt and pepper to oil (enough to cover the entire skillet).

Add 1/4 of a sliced sweet onion (let it sweat for 1 minute)

Add 2 cubed sweet potatoes to medium heat and cover for 15-20 minutes (stir occasionally)

Once potatoes are cooked, add 1 can of Trader Joe’s Cuban Black Beans (or just regular black beans but the TJ’s ones add a little somethin’)  and add lime juice from one lime until heated.

Warm tortillas (I used Trader Joe’s corn/flour tortillas)

Add sweat potato mixture

Add chopped cilantro and microgreens

Sprinkle with feta cheese

Try it and let me know what you think! Thanks for reading! XO!

For the most part I had a pretty normal childhood. But there were some qwerks that I’m just curious if any of you experienced growing up. Tell me if this ever happened to you? It’s a typical Saturday afternoon and you are doing your chores, all of a sudden you hear someone making a loud alarm sound and yelling  “THIS IS A FIRE DRILL! THIS IS A FIRE DRILL! HUSTLE, HUSTLE THIS IS A FIRE DRILL!” No? Or tell me this, did your dad ever interrupt your slumber party to tell your friends that they need to move away from the door because they are a fire hazard. No? Your childhood didn’t look like this?  Where were you when Y2K struck that fateful new year’s eve? I’ll tell you where I was, I was at home with my family with a stock pile that we had built up all year (1999)!  LOL! I have so many qwerky stories like these, my favorite involves a teenage me, a skirt and a hammer….lol…if you haven’t heard this story, call me, we’ll chat…lol!  If you’re a fireman’s daughter, maybe you can relate….maybe.

As hilarious as it was, I  think it was really smart for my dad to make sure that our house always had an emergency plan and that we always put safety first. If I had kids I would TOTALLY make them do fire/earthquake drills at home! Anywho, lately my coworker has me freaked out about “The BIG One.” David and I have been slowly (really slowly) putting together our emergency kit, but with all of the earthquakes that have been happening along the west coast lately in combination with my co-worker’s superstition or intuition, that remains to be seen, I am now on a mission to get us prepared.

Okay to be fair I know, there is nothing sexy about putting together an emergency kit. I thought if I called it sexy I could at least get some of you to read this boring post…lol! Starting a kit can be really daunting at first, but you just have to start somewhere. You may discover that you have more stuff on hand than you think. There are some great resources out there on how to put a kit together but the truth is that there isn’t a one size fit all kit. All across the board what seems to be most important is making sure you have nonperishable food and water for at minimum of three days, but if you want to take safety 101 from my dad you should have enough food and water for 30 days. Again, I know that sounds super daunting but this isn’t the time to spend a bunch of money putting together gourmet healthy meals, you will just need sustenance. Supposedly you can buy a case of 48 Top Ramen for about 10 bucks at Costco (watch out for the salty packets though, those will just make you thirsty). High calorie energy bars, canned food and dried beans are also a good way to go.

I have yet to buy my 48 pack of ramen, but I have been chipping away at my list. This is the list I’ve been using  from  4Dtraveler.

I’m challenging my west coast friends, especially those of you that live along the San Andreas fault to get prepared. I know, I know, we’ve been hearing that “The BIG One ” is coming for years and years but it’s better to be safe than sorry. If you already have a kit, go check it out and make sure that everything is in working order and that nothing is expired.  While you’re at it, you should make sure to build some kind of kit for your car, throw it in an old back pack and keep it there. Below are a bunch of resources that I have been using. Check it out and get started! SEXY ISN’T IT? Thanks for reading!
